Inspired by the lighting as i finally watched the pilot episode. I tried to keep control of my tones, and get some nice saturated colours in there. Hope you enjoy

Pirates of the Caribbean Poster

This was a poster done for a class assignment. Based upon a scene from the movie i exaggerated it and changed several aspects to help make it fit the teaser poster format.

I wanted to encapsulate the character Johnny Depp plays in the film. To me he is laid back and unassuming, using others' underestimations of him to his advantage. At the same time his comfort within himself and pirate lifestyle embodies romnticised freedom, to the point that he inadvertedly seduces two very straight laced characters into the pirate lifestyle.

i used Photoshop, and reference from the film (though this is no longer so similar to the scene that inspired it).
In photoshop i think i only used the Hard edge round brush...
I also used photo reference from the net for some of the individual elements, ie the could and the flag.
My inspiration for rendering style came from the great Craig Mullins, who has done many great pirate pictures. I still got a ways to go on the mullins though obvioulsy

Self Portrait 08/2006

This was a self portrait done from a mirror a wee while ago. I am wearing my computer headset that I bought back when I was into knifing fools in Counterstrike (I wasnt trying to look like a pilot). I think I made myslef look a little young (I'm 25), but it is still a good likeness, if a bit heroic.
It took a bit over an hour I think, and used a couple of brushes I was gifted by a friend of mine itsguido (thats his username on here or you can go to ww.itsguido.com). I was test driving the brushes for this one.

Was done to illustrate a sceen from a story, which dictated a lot of the design elements. Had a lot of fun doing it as I had never drawn a horse before this so I learned a lot.
